Salt, wind and long empty months wear a roof at its edges, and the edges are exactly where a possum tests it.
Fibro shacks on stumps
Shacks from the 1960s to the 1980s around Rye, Capel Sound and Blairgowrie often have unlined eaves and sheet joints that have opened with age. We close the eave line with timber battens and steel mesh.
Tile roofs on the bay side
In Mount Eliza, Mornington and Mount Martha a possum usually lifts a tile beside a valley or slips under ridge capping where the mortar has cracked. We repoint the capping and clip loose tiles back down.
Timber gone soft
Wet winters and leaf litter rot fascia and barge ends, and a possum chews the soft corner open. We cut out the rotten length and fit new timber rather than covering it with a patch.
Steel roofs and flashing
On newer homes the weak spot is often a bent apron flashing or the open end of the corrugated sheet. We fit profile closers and refix the flashing so the ends stay shut.

Do possum roof repairs need a roofer and a separate possum catcher?

Not with us. The same crew removes the possum and repairs the roof, so there is no gap of days or weeks between two trades.
Repairs happen while the one way door is still in place, so every other opening is closed before the possum loses access to the last one. The order matters: seal the roof first and the animal is shut inside, where it chews a new hole or dies in the ceiling.
Anything beyond a possum repair, such as a roof due for replacement or rotten rafters, appears in the written plan as its own price. Nothing of that kind starts without your approval.

Can you do fibro eaves repairs on an old beach shack?
Yes. Fibro from before about 1990 may contain asbestos, so we do not cut, sand or drill the sheet. We close the gaps around it with timber and steel mesh, and if a sheet itself needs replacing we tell you so it can be handled by an asbestos specialist.
Do you fix ridge capping the possum has pushed up?
Yes. We remove the loose bedding, rebed the capping and finish it with flexible pointing so it stays tight when the roof moves.
Can you repair the roof while I am away?
Yes. We arrange access with you, your agent or a neighbour, and send before and after photos of every point we repair.
Why not just block the hole myself?
If the possum is inside when you block it, it will force another way out or die in the roof. Brushtails are protected under the Wildlife Act 1975, so the lawful order is door first, repair last.
Will insurance pay for possum damage?
Policies differ and many exclude damage caused by animals, so check your wording. We can supply an itemised report with photos for you to send to your insurer.
Do you work on two storey houses in Mount Martha or Mount Eliza?
Yes. Two storey, slate and steel deck roofs are priced in writing before we book, because they need more access equipment.
Do you replace soiled insulation?
Nest clean out and sanitising starts from $220. Replacing large areas of insulation is quoted separately after we have seen the roof space.
Which materials hold up near the beach?
Galvanised or stainless steel mesh, fixings rated for coastal exposure and treated timber. We avoid aluminium screen, foam and plastic covers.
